Document Title: Getting MSGCPF3DF9 when using QLPALCSP API for Allocating additional Licensed Internal Code space
Abstract
This document explains why a user might receive MSGCPF3DF9 when trying to allocate additional LIC space using the QLPALCSP API.

Document Description:
CALL to QLPALCSP API (usually when performing a Prepare for Install for an upgrade) gives a msgCPF3DF9:

Message ID . . . . . . . . . : CPF3DF9
Message file . . . . . . . . : QCPFMSG
Library . . . . . . . . . : QSYS

Message . . . . : Allocate space for release value not valid.
Cause . . . . . : v5r4m0 was specified for the Allocate space for release value.
Valid values are:
-- *NONE -- Do not allocate space for any release.
-- VxRyMz -- The release of LIC that requires the additional space, where
x must be a number 0 through 9, y must be a number 0 through 9, and z must
be a number 0 through 9 or a letter A through Z.
Recovery . . . : Change the Allocate space for release value to the correct
format and try the request again.

Reasons for getting this message:
1) Release is invalid for upgrade path
2) PARM is incorrectly entered. PARM is CaSe SeNsItIvE

In the example error message above, the CALL command incorrectly used lower case v5r4m0 when it should be V5R4M0 as shown below:

CALL PGM(QLPALCSP) PARM('V5R4M0' '0')
